Sometimes it’s the simplest things that carry the greatest impact. Yesterday I spent $5 on fresh green flowers because the thought of another month of winter makes me want to stay in bed for weeks. And somehow, flowers in a pretty jar really do make it better.
I had a discussion with some other writers recently and one of them talked about “setting the mood” when she gets ready to write. I think that’s such a helpful way to think of our surroundings, setting the mood for whatever we are doing that day. We underestimate the impact little things in our environment have on us–a lit candle, a favorite print, flowers.
So to survive until the sun reappears, I’ll be trying to keep these green beauties alive as long as possible.

They’re beautiful! I’ve done Apartment Therapy’s Home Cure the last couple years, and one of the things to do is buy flowers. It does wonders to a space. And environment-wise, I’ve found a clean space opens my mind like nothing else can.
