Five Minute Friday : Ordinary

It’s Five Minute Friday again. Today we’re writing about….

Ordinary.

I’m finding myself more ordinary that I ever dreamed I would be. Mom. Wife. Grocery shopper. Laundry wrangler. I can feel it when I’m in public now. That day has come; I’m more concerned about juggling the baby and scrounging for the sippy cup than sucking in my soft stomach and keeping my hair in place.

I’m like so many other women who pass me in their sedans and minivans. Another mom.

Ordinary is precisely how I feel, but I’m finding joy in that. And truth. Because the truth is that the only way for this ordinary life to shine is by divine intervention. From dust I came and to dust I will return, but the Light that illuminates this life is power and glory and redemption.

I’ll take ordinary. Christ will be extraordinary.

I really appreciated this post. Thanks for putting into words how so many of us mothers feel. What’s so extraordinary to me is that God sees you (and me)! He’s mindful of us. He chooses to use the “ordinary” things to bring His kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven. What a blessing to partner with Him in this hey?

Heather, I love your thoughts on this. In our ordinariness, He chooses us and uses us. Yes, it is a blessing to partner with Him and watch Him turn the ashes into beauty. I love this life He allows us to walk with Him.

Thank you for adding to the conversation!

Thanks for sharing this. I love being a mom and doing the ordinary things. I think the struggle for me is that our culture doesn’t seem to embrace ordinary. That’s when I remind myself that Jesus was born to the most ordinary of people, in a most humbling way. And I’m in good company. :)

Yes, Cassidy! The struggle for me, too, has been that our society doesn’t typically value the ordinary. That’s a difficult belief to overcome, but I think it’s so important for moms (and others as well).

      Thanks for dropping by!
